How to prepare for your first Brazilian Wax
So you’re thinking about getting a Brazilian? Yay! We’re so excited for you! Are you scared? Don’t be. It’s not as bad as you’re thinking, the anticipation is the worst part. Just in case that’s not enough to help with the nerves, here’s a few tips to help you prepare:
First off, just breathe. When you’re anxious or tense, your body goes into high alert, which sets your nerves on edge. The more relaxed you are, the less painful it will be.
Make sure your hair is long enough. The last thing you want is to get mentally prepared for the appointment, and have to be turned away. The hair has to be at least ¼ of an inch for the wax to grab it properly, or the length of a grain of rice. We suggest no less than 3 weeks from the last time you shaved, if that’s your previous method of hair removal. It’s better to be too long, then too short.
Exfoliate. Exfoliate. Exfoliate. Exfoliating prior to your appointment helps remove the build up of dead skin cells, which allows for a less painful wax. We suggest a dry brush, microdermabrasion scrub, or exfoliating gloves. If using a dry brush, always make sure to go towards your heart, and only do one pass to start. If using a scrub or exfoliating gloves, use gentle circular motions over the entire area. We suggest starting to exfoliate 2 weeks prior to your wax, if possible, and exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Be sure to exfoliate the evening prior to your wax, just be extra gentle.
“Drinking beforehand will totally help!” False. Drinking alcohol or caffeine prior to your appointment cause your pores to tighten, which can make the process more painful. We suggest avoiding both for 4-6 hours prior. Instead, make sure to drink plenty of water!
